About Us

Lizzie Coughlan started the business over a century ago in Cornmarket Street, Cork. In the 1940’s her son and grandson, Patsy and Pearce Coughlan, took the stall to the Grand Parade Market. This was a time when the market was less diversified and was dominated by butchers stalls.

Paul Murphy became the fourth generation to work in the stall when he began in the 1950’s. His son Alan is now a partner in the business. Alan gained a lot of experience learning the trade in Germany over a four and a half year period.

As well as serving generations of customers in the Market, P. Coughlan’s also supply to restaurants and “takeaway” outlets. Freezer and BBQ orders are also supplied. All meats can also be vacuum packed on request for those travelling home or going on holiday.
At Christmas, they have a large selection of spiced beef, smoked and green hams and farm fresh turkeys and geese from West Cork.
